Welcome to The Speech Studio

About Us

 

Welcome, I’m Rebecca, the face behind The Speech Studio and a Speech and Language Therapist. I’ve spent the last 10 years working with children and young people aged 2–16, supporting a wide range of speech, language and communication needs. I’ve worked in children’s centres, nurseries, schools, family homes and online, always aiming to create a space where children feel safe, understood, and free to be themselves.

  • Receptive & expressive language difficulties
  • Selective mutism
  • Stammering
  • Neurodivergent children (including those who are autistic, have ADHD or both)
  • Social, emotional & mental health needs
  • Complex communication profiles


My approach is child-led and rooted in play. I believe every child communicates in their own unique way, and I’m here to celebrate that. I work gently and flexibly, helping children grow in confidence by finding ways to express themselves that feel right for them.


Whether your child is beginning to explore communication, feeling anxious or stuck when trying to express themselves, or has more complex needs, I aim to provide a space where they can make progress at their own pace and feel proud of who they are.

Why I started The Speech Studio

I wanted to build a space where therapy could go beyond targets and tick-boxes. A place where a child’s interests, emotions, and sense of self are just as important as the sounds or words they use.


Confidence is at the heart of communication. That’s why I focus on building connection and trust first, especially for children who may be anxious, withdrawn, or struggling to express themselves. My goal is always to help children feel proud of how they communicate, in whatever way feels right for them.


My Approach

 

  • Child-led – Every child brings their own personality, needs, and pace. I follow their lead and shape sessions around what feels right for them.


  • Play-based – Play is how children explore, connect, and learn. Whether it’s imaginative games, sensory activities or quiet shared moments, I use play as the foundation for therapy.


  • Regulation-aware – I consider how anxiety, sensory processing, and emotional regulation affect communication. We go gently, always working within your child’s window of tolerance and at their pace.


  • Neuroaffirming – I work with, not against, the ways children naturally express themselves, whether they are autistic, have ADHD, or use alternative ways to communicate.
